IPL 2024 પહેલા જ ગંભીર કોલકાતા નાઈટ રાઈડર્સ (KKR)નો મેન્ટર બન્યાં હતા. આ પછી તેમણે પોતાની મેન્ટરશિપ હેઠળ KKR ટીમને ચેમ્પિયન પણ બનાવી હતી. મુખ્ય કોચ પદ માટે અરજી કરનાર ગંભીર એકમાત્ર ઉમેદવાર હતા. કોચ પદ માટેના ઈન્ટરવ્યુ પહેલા તેઓ કેન્દ્રીય ગૃહ મંત્રી અમિત શાહને મળ્યા હતા.
